Privacy Policy
backintheday (backinthedayhub.com) is a free, non-commercial nostalgia site. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: we collect what the site needs to work, we don't sell anything, and we don't show ads.
What we collect
- Your account. Your email address, and how you sign in. If you use Google, Discord or Facebook, we get your name, email address and profile picture from them. We never see your password for those services. If you choose a password with us, it's stored scrambled (hashed) by our sign-in provider, never in plain text. Passkeys stay on your device; we only keep a public key.
- Your profile. Your username, display name, birth year, profile color and Top 8.
- What you post. Memories, sparks, Trading Post listings (including any contact info you choose to add), Movie Night chat messages, and reports you send about other posts.
- Problem reports. When you use “Something broken?”, or when a page crashes, we save the message, the page you were on and your browser type, so we can fix it.
- Visits. We count page views with Vercel Web Analytics, which doesn't use cookies or track you across other sites.
- Things kept only in your browser. Capsule drafts and mixtapes are saved on your device, not on our servers, unless you choose to share or export them.
How we use it
To run your account, show your posts, keep the community safe (moderation and abuse reports), send sign-in and account emails, and fix bugs. We don't sell or rent your information, and we don't use it for advertising.
Who else handles it
- Supabase stores the database and handles sign-in.
- Vercel hosts the site and counts visits.
- Resend sends our emails.
- Google, Discord and Facebook, only if you choose to sign in with them.
- YouTube and Apple Music serve the videos and song previews you play. They may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.
What's public
Your username, display name, profile, Top 8, memories, listings and chat messages can be seen by other visitors. Your email address and birth year are never shown to other people.
Your choices
You can edit your profile any time in Settings. To delete your account and everything you've posted, or to get a copy of your data, send a request with the “Something broken? Tell us” link at the bottom of any page while signed in, and we'll take care of it.
Age
backintheday is for people 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
